Logistics Tech Graduates To Receive International Certification

Logistics Technology program graduates to receive international certification

MGCCC Logistics Technology program graduates to receive certification through the International Society of Logistics, an international professional logistics society. The society's professional certification and recognition programs recognize the professional stature and accomplishments of logisticians within commerce, industry, defense, international, federal and local government agencies, as well as in academic and private institutions.

“This is a real accomplishment for our program at Gulf Coast,” said John O’Hara, instructor in the Logistics Technology program at the Jackson County Campus. “Basically, this gives our graduates a certificate and something they can put on their resume, and a professional lapel pin they can wear that shows they are qualified logisticians. SOLE is a well-recognized name in industry so the certifications will carry a lot of weight.”

There are three levels of designation in the Demonstrated Logistician certification program through SOLE -- Demonstrated Logistician (DL), Demonstrated Senior Logistician (DSL) and the highest level is the Demonstrated Master Logistician (DML). “All levels require that the individual continue his/her professional education through college credit or CEU equivalent credit courses, coupled with technical training in his/her field and enabler training in areas associated with the integrated functions of business or government,” O’Hara said. “In addition there are requirements for continued demonstrated professional performance in the practice of logistics.”

O’Hara, who qualifies for the DML certification through the organization, said the requirements are rigorous. “The fact that SOLE has agreed to give our graduates the DL certification immediately upon graduation speaks highly of our program here. We are very proud of the fact that we meet their tough international standards of education.”

Community information events are planned for those interested in finding out more about the programs. “On April 14, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., we will be at the old KMART Building in Pascagoula with information for Northrop Grumman employees,” he said. “On April 21, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., we encourage everyone who is interested in the program to come by the MGCCC Kiosk in Singing River Mall. Our instructors will be there to answer questions about the program. Additionally, admissions specialists will be on hand to help with applications for admission, financial aid, and with information on other Gulf Coast programs.”
