Pat Modenbach, language arts instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jefferson Davis Campus, received the Cowan Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English at the annual Two-Year College Association Southeast (TYCA-SE) conference held in Greensboro, N.C., during February. Each year, the award is given to an outstanding English instructor who demonstrates exceptional skill in instruction, develops creative approaches to curriculum and instruction, and exhibits a leadership role within the academic department.
Modenbach has taught in elementary, secondary and post-secondary educational institutions in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. While at Gulf Coast, she has served as treasurer for the Jefferson Davis Campus Faculty Association and currently coordinates publicity for the association. For four years, she has been co-director of Connections, a student mentoring organization. She is also a Charter Committee member for the Two-Year College English Association of Mississippi’s (TYCAM) state textbook. In 2007, she received from TYCAM the annual Vicker’s Award.
