MGCCC instructor wins award in national poetry contest

Dr. J. Marcus Weekley

A prose poem written by a Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College instructor was selected as a runner-up in the poetry category of the International Arts Movement’s 2009 Juried Writing Competition. Dr. J. Marcus Weekley’s prose poem, “Long-Winter Paragraphs Touching the Subject of Disbelief,” was selected by Bret Lott, former editor of The Southern Review and Pushcart Prize-winning author. As one of the winners, Weekley will participate in a group reading panel at the February 2009 IAM Encounter Conference in New York City. Weekley teaches in the Language Arts Department at the Perkinston Campus.
