Don Massengale, longtime Board of Trustees member at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, was recently named chairman of the State Trustee Association for Community and Junior Colleges at the organization’s annual meeting in Biloxi. Massengale will serve as chair for two years.

“The state board gets together to discuss issues and legislative priorities affecting community colleges,” Massengale said. “I am honored and thrilled to serve on such an outstanding board.”

Massengale has served as a Jackson County representative on Gulf Coast’s board since 1989, serving as board chair from 2000-2001. He’s also been a member of and chaired several board committees during his tenure.

“Don Massengale will be an excellent leader for the state association,” said Dr. Willis Lott, Gulf Coast president. “He’s been an active member at the state trustee meetings for many years, and he’ll bring some great ideas to make the association stronger and a better supporter for the community and junior college system.”

Massengale is also a member of the Gulf Coast Bulldog Club and played football at Gulf Coast in 1953-54. In 2004 he was the recipient of the college’s Sam Owen Award, an honor awarded annually to a Gulf Coast Alumni Association member who actively supports the college.
