Performers in the 2008 Vocal Soirée offered by the Fine Arts Department on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus Fine Arts Department will hold a Vocal Soirée and Spring Bouquet Art Gallery Show on Thursday, April 8, 2010 in Malone Hall on the Perkinston Campus. The art show will begin at 6:15 p.m. and the musical performances by students and instructors will begin at 7 p.m.
The Vocal Soirée, brainchild of MGCCC vocal instructor Marilyn Lott, has been a Perkinston Campus Fine Arts annual event since 1999. Only two instructors and a few students were involved in the beginning; but over the years the Soirée grew larger, with more faculty and student participation. The event’s popularity forced a move from the Black Box Theatre to the larger auditorium. What was once a recital in a small theatre has become a large, formal event in Malone auditorium, often with 20 or more performers.
Additions over the years have been many, including vocalists performing with wind instruments, vocal duets, guest performers, faculty performers, and former students returning to make guest appearances.
The past few years have included an added attraction, an art gallery showing, which provides an opportunity for visual art students to display their work. The woodwind ensemble has participated in recent years, providing live music in the lobby during these art gallery showings. This year solo piano music will fill the lobby, as guests view the latest artwork, entitled Spring Bouquet.
Tickets for the event are $5 for adults and $2 for students and may be purchased at the door. Proceeds for the event will be donated to student scholarships. For more information, contact the Fine Arts Department at 601-528-8408.
