MGCCC student receives full-tuition scholarship to The University of MississippiKatie Day, a Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College graduate, has been awarded a Lyceum Scholar Award from The University of Mississippi. Day received the full-tuition scholarship for her junior and senior years at Ole Miss.
Day, who was a Jackson County Campus student, was honored this year as an All-Mississippi First Team scholar. The First Team includes highest scoring students from each community college in the state. She was also a Phi Theta Kappa chapter officer, a member of the Honors College, a Student Government Association officer and president of Reflections. She was elected Miss Jackson County Campus in the Who’s Who and Homecoming Queen, and was named to the campus Hall of Fame. She was also chosen for the 2012 Who’s Who Among Students in American Community Colleges. She graduated in May from Gulf Coast with Special Honors.
The Lyceum scholarships, which are limited to 10 Mississippi community college students annually, are for transfer students who have an exemplary record of leadership and service. Potential recipients for the scholarships were interviewed by a committee of faculty and administration as part of the award process.
